Respect for Horses, Jennifer Bloeser

There are two ways of dealing with horses, or animals, or life for that matter. With arrogance, violence and dominance, or gentility. Real power lies in the latter.

There have always been, since man first domesticated the horse, two ways of dealing with horses, and perhaps all animals, for that matter. There has been the way of dominance, the way of arrogance, of lording it over the rest of creation, the way of those who believe that the only intelligence that exists in the universe exists in the minds of men. This way has always led to the subjugation of animals, of turning them into slaves, unwilling beasts of burden, and acting in whatever ways were needed to insure complete, if unwilling, obedience.

But there has always been another way, a kinder, gentler way, a way that showed respect for life in all its manifestations, whether they were feathered, furred, scaled, or hairless and arrogant. Every article you read on this website will be dedicated to this gentler way, a way that enlists the willing cooperation of our animal companions. Every article will be dedicated to spreading the mindset and attitude that all life, in every type of body is valuable simply because it exists and that if man wishes to enlist the aid of that animal or cause it to work for him in some manner then it must be done in a manner that is respectful and gentle.

The articles on this website will always be geared towards changing the attitudes of people, since that is the only place where change is ever effective. The treatment of animals, especially horses, will only improve when the attitudes, the basic mindset from which people operate, is changed. The articles you find here are all dedicated towards improving those attitudes and changing the view that modern people have towards animals.

The author sincerely hopes that you will return again, and again, for ideas that will inspire you to become better with horses and to pass that knowledge on to others around you and near you. In this way we can all make the world a better place for those creatures who must share it with us. It can only be done one idea at a time, one person at a time, and one animal at a time. Come back often, and help this one horseman change the world, one step at a time.
